St. Patricks Eve

Good news out of Cardinals’ camp.  Even though Izzy seemed shaky, it is good to see him back on the mound.  Let’s hope he can get back to form that made him more dependable than last year.  RHP Dennis Dove is making an impression and a push to replace Josh Kinney in the bullpen.  He hit 97 on the radar gun during a perfect inning in yesterday’s game.

Also of note, Sikeston native Blake Dewitt appeared in yesterday’s game vs. the Cardinals.  The former first round pick did not have an at bat and made an error at third.  Dewitt is projected to start the year at Double A Jacksonville.

Down in Florida, Ken Rosenthal is reporting last year’s AL Champions are looking really sharp.  My biggest concern with the Tigers is how the young pitchers will respond after such big workloads last year.

Bad news for the baby bears.  Looks like Kerry Wood’s arm is hurting and so far Mark Prior has been so unimpressive he is probably going to start the year at Triple A.  Looks like a lot of softball scores at Wrigley this year.

Southeast Missouri State hosts Arkansas-Pine Bluff this weekend.  Mizzou is on the road to match up against Cleveland State.  The Tigers have now won nine in a row.  SIU hosts Western Michigan.

How’s your bracket looking?  Mine is better than normal because I only picked one upset.  I tabbed Gonzaga over IU and who had Duke losing?  Not me.  So two losses on day 1 is alright by me.  Of local interest, Tyler Hansbrough had 21 points and 10 rebounds to help the top-seeded Tar Heels beat Eastern Kentucky 86-65.

Caught a game at Lindenwood University this past weekend.  What a nice park.  But where is the scoreboard?
