Cardinals get a split with the Brewers, but more importantly it looks like Pujols might have found his stroke. I know it is only one game, but man, what a game it was. El Hombre had 2 HRs and 5 RBIs. Duncan continued his hot hitting with a career high 4 hits including a HR. Looper had another good outing.
Saturday night was a miserable night. Not only was it wet and cold, but Suppan came to town and got his revenge, picking up the victory. My only gripe is why were Schumaker and Miles up in the bottom of the ninth, swinging at the first pitch? That is bad baseball if you ask me.
Memphis was swept in a double header against Oklahoma. Memphis was shutout in both games. Memphis did pitch well as Blake Hawksworth went 5 and gave up 2 runs on 6 hits with 4 Ks in the first game. Dennis Dove also pitched a scoreless inning. In game two, Troy Cate pitched 5 scoreless innings giving up 3 hits and striking out 3. Kelvin Jimenez pitched 2 innings and struckout 4. Oklahoma’s only run in the second game came on a walk off HR off of Andy Cavazos.
Springfield was back on the field Sunday, and after all was said and done, it would have been better if they would have stayed home. The positive is that they did go out and score 8 runs, it is just that they gave up 17. Mitch Boggs was rocked for 7 runs on 7 hits in 3.1 innings. Zachary Zuercher was blasted, gaving up 4 runs in .2 innings. Eric Haberer was also torched for 5 runs in 4 innings. Kevin Ool only gave up one run in his only inning of work. Colby Rasmus had two hits, as did Tyler Greene and Bryan Anderson. Anderson is now hitting .391. Rasmus had two RBIs and now has his average up to .207. I expected the slow start from him, but what surprises me is Jon Jay hitting only .233. But it has been really cold so I am going to wait until the weather warms before I get to concerned.
The Swing thumped Peoria 9 to 3. Brandon Buckman continues to hit, driving in 2. Mark Shorey had 3 RBIs to go along with a pair of hits. Isa Garcia had a couple hits and is now hitting .346. Christian Lopez had 3 hits. Brandon Dickson got the win, going five innings and allowing only 1 run. Blake King got knocked around a little, giving up 2 runs in 3 innings.
Augusta, low A affiliate of the Giants, is off to an 11-0 start.
Blake Dewitt started the night 0 for 4 for the Inland Empire on Sunday night. But that all changed when he tripled to leadoff the bottom of the 12th. He later scored the only run of the game to give the Empire the victory. He is now hitting .255/.268/.489 with 2 HRs and 7 RBIs. He has only 2 BBs but he has struckout only 4 times in 47 ABs.
Former Mizzou standout James Boone is off to a hot start. Boone is hitting .361/.439/.500 through his first 36 ABs. Boone was a third round pick of the Pirates in 05 had has been slowed by injuries in his first two professional seasons.
Southeast split a double header Sunday at Samford. The Redhawks won the first game 9-0 and lost the second game 2-1 in 11 innings.
#25 Mizzou lost its first weekend series to #16 Texas A & M. The Tigers split a double header with the Aggies on Saturday and lost the rubber game on Sunday 5-2.
SIU was swept by #11 Wichita State. The Shockers scored 37 runs off of the Salukis in the three game series.
Vandy won its 3 game series on the road at UK, winning 2 of the 3 games. I would think this would keep the Commodores in the #1 spot.
