Even the Rain couldn’t stop Izzy and the Cards

Cards put 3 on the board in the fifth, and then a run in the sixth, seventh, and eighth to top the Reds 7-5.  The Cardinals win the series 2 games to 1, and now stand 10-11 on the year.  Skip Schumaker had the best day of his big league career, collecting his first 3 hit game and he collected 2 RBIs.  Albert had 2 hits to raise his average to .247.  Randy Keisler was very mediocre, giving up 4 runs on 6 hits in 3.1 innings.  The bullpen was stellar pitching 5.1 innings and allowing 1 run on 1 hit.  Izzy got his sixth save after a 49 minute rain delay with 1 out in the ninth..  The Cards welcome the Cubs to town on Friday night with Anthony Reyes vs.  Jason Marquis.

Memphis fell to Iowa (Cubs), 7-4.  The Redbirds had to dig themselves out a hole as Iowas scored 5 runs in the first 2 innings.  Blake Hawksworth fell to 0-4, giving up 5 runs on 8 hits in 5 innings.  Dennis Dove threw 2 innings, striking out 2.  Ryan Ludwick went 2-4 and scored 2 runs.  Ludwick is hitting .351.  Rick Ankiel had 3 hits to push his average to .264. 

Springfield beat Wichita (Kansas City), 6-2.  Joe Mather hit HRs number 8 and 9 and also added another hit and scored 3 runs.  Mather is hitting .361.  Bryan Anderson had 2 hits including his second HR of the season.  Mitch Boggs had another strong outing, pitching 6 shutout innings.  Boggs gave up 5 hits, 3 BBs, and 4 Ks and did not factor in the decision.  Kevin Ool pitched 2.1 perfect innings for the victory.

Palm Beach held off Vero Beach (Tampa Bay), 9-5.  Palm Beach led 8-0 after 2 innings, but were able to hold off the Devil Rays for the win.  Gary Dailey was impressive, giving up 3 runs on 6 hits while striking out 9 in 6 innings of work.  His ERA stands at 1.53.  Scott Vander Weg gave up 2 runs in his only inning of work but did strikeout 2.  Luke Gregerson continues to impress striking out 4 in 2 shutout innings.  Allen Craig continues to scorch the ball, going 3-5 with 4 RBIs and 2 HRs.  A.J. Van Slyke, Andy’s son, had a 2 run homer.  Casey Rowlett and Brandon Yarbrough added 3 hits each and Jose Martinez added 2 hits.

Quad Cities fell to Burlington (Kansas City), 7-3.  Brandon Buckman continued his hot hitting going 3-4 with an RBI.  Buckman was the only member of the Swing with multiple hits.  Tyler Herron fell to 0-3 after giving up 3 runs on 5 hits in 3.2 innings.  His ERA is now 5.94.  Brad Furnish was also shaky giving up 4 runs in 2 innings.
