Good Day for the Cardinals’ Minor League System

Memphis got past Iowa (Cubs), 8-5. The Redbirds were up 8-1 but Iowa rallied with 4 to pull within 3.  Recently demoted Randy Keisler and Brian Falkenborg came in and stopped the rally.  Falkenborg earned his seventh save.  Chris Narveson was less than spectacular going 6 innings and giving up 5 runs.  Brendan Ryan, Rick Ankiel, and Travis Hanson had 2 hits each for the Redbirds.  Slicky Ricky also had 4 RBIs to bring his total to 25 on the season.  I think I would rather see Ankiel in St. Louis more than P. Wilson.  Ryan Ludwick had another hit and 2 runs scored.

Springfield doubled up Tulsa (Colorado) 4-2.  Chris Lambert started and gave up 1 run in 4 innings.  He did strikeout 6.  Matthew Scherer was credit with the win pitching a scoreless eighth.  On the season Scherer has pitched 13.1 innings and given up 1 run for an ERA of 0.68.  Chris Perez picked up his fourth save pitching a perfect ninth.  Jon Jay and Colby Rasmus each homered for the Cardinals.  It was Jay’s first and Rasmus’ second.  Bryan Anderson had 2 doubles to raise his average to .353.  Joe Mather was 1-4 and is hitting .319.

Palm Beach defeated Daytona (Cubs) 5-3 on a walkoff HR by A.J. Van Slyke, his second HR of the year.  Allen Craig continued to rake going 2-4 and raising his average to .358.  Brandon Yarbrough and Mark Hamilton each had 2 hits.  Yarbrough is hitting .315.  Trey Hearne went 6 innings and gave up 3 runs on on 5 hits.  Luke Gregerson continues to be solid, pitching 2 perfect innings and lowering his ERA to 1.76.  Jason Motte pitched a perfect ninth, striking out 2, to get the victory.  The converted catcher has an ERA of 0.90 in 9 appearances.

Quad Cities beat Burlington (Kansas City) 6-2.  Elvis Hernandez was impressive pitching 5 scoreless innings and giving up only 1 hit.  P.J. Walters gave up 2 runs on 4 hits in 4 innings and struckout 6.  Jaime Landin was 3-4 including his second homer of the season, a solo shot.  Brandon Buckman was 0-2 but had an RBI and 2 BBs.  Christian Reyes saw his first action since being called up and was 2-3 with 2 RBIs.
