News from the Minors 5-10

The Cardinals were off and will play at San Diego on Friday night.  Ken Rosenthal gives his opinion on the state of the Cardinals.  Nothing really that hasn’t been said he before but worth the read.

Memphis got roughed up by Salt Lake (Angels) 11-3.  Mike Parisi was roughed up for 10 runs in 4.2 innings.  Dennis Dove struckout the only batter he faced.  Hugo Castellanos gave up 1 run in 2 IP.  Rick Ankiel went 2-4 including his ninth HR.  Rico Washington added a HR.  That was about the extent of the Redbirds’ offense.

Springfield fell  6-1 to Wichita (Royals).  Eric Haberer got the start but threw only 3 pitches before a 2 hour rain delay.  Jose Garcia replaced Haberer and got the loss, giving up 6 runs on 8 hits in 4 innings.  Nick Webber had a much better second outing at Double A, pitching 3 scoreless innings.  Colby Rasmus was 1-2 with a SB and has hit in 9 of his last 10 games.  Joe Mather and Juan Enc. each had a hit.  StlToday has a nice article on Mather.  Juan Lucena was 2-3.  A doubleheader was scheduled but Game 2 was postponed until Saturday.  Viva El Birdos has an interview with Cardinals’ outfield prospect Jon Jay.

Palm Beach fell to Dunedin (Blue Jays) 5-3.  Ian Church had a big day, going 3-4 with an RBI and a run scored.  Mark Hamilton has an 8 game hitting streak as he went 1-3 with an RBI.  During the streak he is hitting .393 and has raised his season average to .277 from .213 at the beginning of the streak.  Allen Craig was 1-5.  Kyle McClellan got the loss giving up 3 runs on 6 hits in 3 innings.  Donnie Smith and Scott Vander Weg each gave up 1 run in 3 innings pitched.

Quad Cities lost on the road at Lansing (Blue Jays) 7-5.  Once again Brandon Buckman led the way for the Swing offensively going 3-4 with 3 RBIs.  Buckman was a single away from the cycle.  Buckman’s HR was his ninth.  Christian Reyes continues to rake as he went 2-4 including his first HR of the season.  Mark Shorey was 1-4 with an RBI.  Shaun Garceau got hammered for 6 runs on 6 hits in 3 innings.  Eddie Degerman had another impressive outing, going 4 innings, giving up only 1 run on 2 hits and striking out 8.
