Adam Wainwright was roughed up by the Dodgers on Tuesday night. It is very disappointing being his struggling offense scored 7 runs. Wainwright is now 3-3 with an ERA over 6. The bullpen was good though, giving up only 1 run on 4 hits in 5.1 innings. Pujols had a nice night going 2-5 with 2 RBIs. Ryan Ludwick was 2-5 with 3 RBIs. I wish the Cards would leave him in right and send Juan Enc. back down for more rehab. Yes, he is out of options and would have to pass through waivers. But, would anyone really be too upset if someone claimed him and paid the rest of his contract?
Speaking of waivers, the Cardinals claimed Todd Wellemeyer off waivers from the Royals. Wellemeyer is a hard throwing right hander who has an ERA over 10.
Memphis fell to the Colorado Sky Sox (Rockies) 7-2. Mike Parisi was roughed up for 7 runs on 12 hits in 4 innings. The bullpen pitched four innings of scoreless baseball. Skip Schumaker had another good outing going 3-3 and walking twice. Matt Pagnozzi had his best Triple A game to date going 2-4.
Springfield was rained out.
Palm Beach topped St. Lucie (Mets) 1-0 in Game 1 of a doubleheader. Kyle McClellan got the victory and Luke Gregerson picked up his fifth save. Dan Nelson was the only Cardinal with multiple hits going 2-4. Casey Rowlett drove in the only run. Allen Craig went 1-3. Adam Ottavino left the game after 1.1 innings.
In Game 2, Palm Beach won 4-3. Mark Hamilton was the offensive star going 3-4 with all 4 RBIs. Shane Robinson was 2-4 with 2 runs scored and a stolen base, number 14. Trey Hearne was solid, giving up 3 runs but did give up 9 hits and 2 walks in 6.2 innings. Jon Mikrut got the final out of the game to pick up his second save.
Colby Rasmus was number 11 this week on Baseball America’s Prospect Hot Sheet. Rasmus leads all of Double A with 22 extra base hits. Mark Hamilton was rated number 19. Brandon Buckman was listed on the Helium Watch for his impressive start. The minor league system must be getting better, as I don’t remember 2 Cardinals ever making the list, but this week the Cards have 3.
Blake Dewitt has a solid game on Monday and then Tuesday he is not in the lineup. No wonder he hasn’t gotten anything going.
Mizzou beat Illinois 12-5 in a wood bat game. Jacob Priday was 1-2 with 2 RBIs and 3 BBs.
Southeast’s game was rained out.
The Quad Cities game was cancelled due to rain. Swing of the Quad Cities right-hander P.J. Walters was named the Midwest League Pitcher of the Week after going 2-0 while pitching 9 scoreless innings.
