Travel Day

The Cardinals had a travel day as they go from L.A. to play the redhot Detroit Tigers.  Seems there could be some unrest among the ranks.  Lboros over at VEB has more.  Bernie at Stltoday has a story about how LaRussa might be looked upon by his players as a lame duck manager. 

Memphis fell to Round Rock (Astros) 2-0.  Blake Hawksworth put in a solid effort giving up only 2 runs on 3 hit in 6 innings.  He struck out 6 but walked 4.  Round Rock’s runs came off of a 2 run shot by Brooks Conrad.  The Redbirds had only 4 hits  with Travis Hanson having the only extra basehit.

Springfield got a run in the top of the twelfth to beat Tulsa (Rockies) 8-7.  Jose Garcia got the win and Chris Perez picked up his tenth save.  Jason Motte had another nice outing pitching 2.2 scoreless innings, striking out 3, waking 2, and allowing 1 hit.  Eric Haberer got the start and was roughed up for 6 runs on 6 hits in 5.1 innints.  Colby Rasmus was 2-3 and is now hitting .299.  Tyler Greene was 2-7 with 3 RBIs.  Juan Lucena came off the bench and ended up going 5-5.  Joe Mather, Bryan Anderson, and Cody Haerther each had 2 hits.  Juan Richardson hit a solo HR, his fifth.

Palm Beach topped Vero Beach (Devil Rays) 2-1.  Tyler Norrick was sharp giving up only 1 run on on 2 hits and striking out 7 in 6 innings.  Matt Trent picked up the save.  Mark Hamilton and Ian Church each had an RBI and Allen Craig went 1-3.  Matt Trent picked up his first save of the season.

The Swing fell to West Michigan (Tigers) 5-2.  Brandon Buckman was 2-4.  Christian Reyes had 2 hits and an RBI.  Jared Schweitzer was 2-4 and is hitting .346 in 8 games.  Brandon Dickson picks up the loss giving up 4 runs on 3 hits while striking out 5 in 3.1 innings of relief.  Blake King got the start and was solid, giving up no runs on 1 hit and 4 Ks in 4 innings.
