Rained out in Peoria

We made it to Peoria and the game got rained out.  O’Brien Field is a really nice stadium with a very friendly staff.  Ryne Sandberg is the Peoria manager and he signs autographs for 10-15 minutes before every home game.  He signed a ball for both my children, Anna and Zac.

After a rain delay with 2 outs in the ninth, the Cardinals beat the Nationals 8-6.  Albert had 2 hits and is approaching the .300 mark.  Duncan went 0-4 and is now hitting .279.   Rolen had 2 hits and Edmond contributed 3.  It is nice to see MV3 contribute multiple hits on the same night.   Thompson was decent to get the victory.  He gave up 3 runs on 10 hits in only 5.1 innings.  Izzy picked up this 13th save in a very long ninth.

Memphis fell to Round Rock (Astros) 3-1.  Nick Stavinoha added 2 more hits.  He is on fire.  Rick Ankiel doubled and struck out twice.  Mike Parisi gets the loss.  He gave up 3 runs on 9 hits in 6 innings.  On a positive note, Chris Lambert struck out 3 in 2 scoreless innings.

Springfield was doubled up by Corpus Christi (Astros) 2-1.  Springfield out hit C.C. 10-6.  Cody Haerther and Jarrett Hoffpauir each had 3 hits.  Juan Richardson added 2 hits.  Colby Rasmus was 0-4 but did drive in the only run.  Jaime Garcia falls to 1-5.  He gave up 2 runs on 6 hits and struck out 7 in 6.2 innings.

Palm Beach scored 6 runs in the seventh to beat Lakeland (Tigers), 9-6.  Jose Martinez had the big blast in the inning, a 3 run shot, his first HR of the year.  Mark Hamilton had 2 hits and 2 RBIs.  A.J. Van Slyke was 3-5 with an RBI.  Gary Daley started and was not good.  He gave up 5 runs on 6 hits and 7, yes 7 walks in 4 innings.  Fernando Salas got the win in relief and Luke Gregerson notched his tenth save.

Quad Cities was rained out.  Hopefully the weather will clear by the time the Swing gets back home on Sunday.  We have tickets.

Blake Dewitt went 3-5 on Saturday after getting 4 hits on Friday night.  In his last 3 games he has 11 hits.  He has hit in 9 of his last 10 and is hitting .404 during that stretch.

I got an email from one of the authors of a great site Sports Talk Daily.  They cover all sports, not just baseball.

Mizzou blew out Oklahoma State 13-1 in only 7 innings.  Jacob Priday was 2-5 including a HR and drove in 5 runs.  The Tigers will find out their NCAA fate on Sunday.
