Draft Day 2007

It is Draft Day.  There are a bunch of different sites with a bunch of different Mock Drafts that have the Cardinals selecting a bunch of different players.  After today, there will be no more guesses.  The Cardinals have pick number 18, the highest selection the team has had in quite a while.  The draft is high school rich, and I am hoping the Cardinals go infielder, but if one of the really good pitchers fall, it wouldn’t hurt my feelings.  Derrick Goold has an article on the Cardinals’ draft philosophy and Jeff Gordon talks about some of the Cardinals recent drafts.

The Cardinals came back with 5 unanswered runs to beat the Reds 6-4.  Ryan Ludwick came off the bench to hit a solo HR to tie it in the bottom of the seventh.  Albert came up later that inning and hit a 2-run blast to put the Cardinals ahead.  Tyler Johnson got the win in relief and Izzy got his fourteenth save.  Izzy has been nothing less than tremendous so far this year.  Scott Rolen got 2 hits in his return from his hamstring injury.

 Memphis had the night off.

Springfield gave up 17 hits and fell to Tulsa (Rockies), 8-6.  Colby Rasmus 1-5 with an RBI but 4 Ks.  Joe Mather was 2-4 including a HR, his sixteenth.  Sean Danielson went 3-5 in the leadoff spot.  Mark Shorey hit his first Double A HR.  Mike Ferris had a pinch hit single that drove in 2 runs.  Cory Rauschenberger gave up 7 runs on nine hits in 4 innings of work.

Palm Beach fell to Tampa (Yankees), 8-3.  Trey Hearne gave up 6 runs in 6 innings.  Mark Hamilton had another big night going 2-4 including a 2-run blast.  Brandon Yarbrough had 2 hits and an RBI.  Ian Church and Jim Rapoport each contributed a single.

The Swing had the night off.

Blake Dewitt was 2-5 with 2 RBIs.
