Disgusting. Totally freakin’ disgusting. This is a disgrace to Cardinal baseball. If I never see Kip Wells again it will be to soon. I just don’t get it. How can a team that is making money hand over fist put out such a disgraceful team. Why does a team in such dire need of pitching let its best pitching prospect stay in the minors? Much of Cardinal Nation must feel my pain as I went over to Stltoday’s message board and it had crashed. At times I don’t know which is worse, the Cardinals’ horrible play or Al Hrobosky making excuses for them.
The Swing got a tremendous pitching effort from Brad Furnish to top Wisconsin (Mariners), 5-1. Furnish pitched 6 scoreless innings allowing only 2 hits and walking none. Tyler Herron got the save for pitching the final 3 innings. Herron gave up 1 run on 3 hits and struckout 4. Brandon Buckman and Jaime Landin each had 2 hits and an RBI. Luke Gorsett hit a 3-run in the eighth to put the game on ice. Tommy Pham got in the game as a pinch hitter, did not get a hit, and is now hitting .071.
Jupiter (Marlins) shutout Palm Beach for the second day in a row, 4-0. Adam Daniels gave up 4 runs in 5 innings to get the loss. No Palm Beach player had multiple hits and Allen Craig and Mark Hamilton were a combined 0-8.
Springfield got some revenge for the big club as they thumped Wichita (Royals), 11-2. The Kevin Ool experiment continues unsucessfully. He gave up only 2 runs in 6 innings but he did allow 12 hits. Colby Rasmus got things going in the first with a solo HR. But that was his only hit of the game. Bryan Anderson had another big night, going 3-4 with 2 RBIs and runs scored and has his average back over .300. Tyler Greene had a great game with 2 hits and 4 RBIs. Mark Shorey and Mike Ferris had 2 hits a piece.
Memphis was shutout by Nashville (Brewers) 4-0. I guess Troy Cate is a starter again, as he went 5 innings, giving up 3 runs in 5 innings while striking out 5. Chris Lambert gave up 1 run on 2 hits in 3 innings of work. Brendan Ryan and Edgar V. Gonzalez each had 2 hits. Slicky Ricky went 0-4 with 2 Ks.
I found a cool feature on the Johnson City website. It is called Baseball Card Memories and it allows you to view all the team sets since 1990. It is a nice way to remember the ghosts of prospects past.
Ken Rosenthal has a nice article about former Cardinal prospect Dmitri Young and his off field troubles of the last year.
I found Jeff Samardzija’s blog and linked it to the right. It is really cool how he discusses his feelings about moving to the bullpen, on the college world series, etc. He is also having a contest that allows readers to subit there best Samardzija artwork, video, or whatever to win the hat he wore during this year’s spring training and he will autograph it for you. Pretty cool.
If you are in St. Louis on Friday night, get down to Off Broadway and see the Drams. If you are a rock fan you will not regret it.
