GCL Cardinals topped the GCL Nationals, 7-0. One of the players I think could be a steal in the recent draft is Joey Hage. Hage was 1-3. Edgar Lara was 2-3 including a 2 run shot. Jairo Martinez had a 2 run shot. Cardinal pitching allowed only 3 hits.
Johnson City topped Greenville (Astros), 7-3, in its first game of the season as well as its first game of a doubleheader. Nick Vera was 4-4 with 2 doubles, 2 runs scored, and 2 RBIs. Charles Pelt had 2 hits and 2 RBIs. Jon Edwards had a hit and 2 RBIs. Adron Chambers was 0-2 but scored 2 runs. Tyler Leach gave up 3 hits but no runs in 2 innings of work. Chuckie Fick got the win, allowing 1 run on 2 hits with 4 Ks in 3 IP.
In Game 2, Johnson City fell 9-3. Charles Pelt added another 2 hits and 2 RBIs. Jon Edwards was 1-4. Steven Hill got the loss, giving up 4 runs on 4 hits and 3 walks in 1.1 innings. Wladimir Mendoza was roughed up for 3 runs, 2 earned, on no hits and 4 walks in 0.2 innings.
Batavia thumped Auburn (Blue Jays), 7-0. Josh Wilson was superb, allowing no runs on 1 hit with 3 Ks in 4 IP. Jess Todd got the win in a strong debut. Todd went 4 innings, allowing 3 hits and striking out 5. Steve Hill had a great night with 4 hits and 4 RBIs including a 2-run shot. Andrew Brown and Antonio DeJesus each had 2 hits.
The Swing will be back in action on Thursday.
Palm Beach doubled up Daytona (Cubs), 2-1 in the first game of a doubleheader. Palm Beach had only 4 hits. Tyler Norrick gave up 1 run on 5 hits in 4.1 innings. Kyle McClellan got the win with 1.2 scoreless innings without allowing a hit and striking out 3. He has appeared in 15 games and has an ERA of 1.24. Luke Gregerson picked up his 15th save of the year.
In Game 2, Palm Beach won 6-1. Adam Ottavino gave up only 1 run on 3 hits and 4 BBs while striking out 6 in 6 IP. Brandon Buckman was 2-4 in his Palm Beach debut. Allen Craig was 2-2 with 2 RBIs and 2 runs scored. Jim Rapoport and Isa Garcia each had 2 hits and 2 runs scored.
Springfield got 3 in the eighth to top Arkansas (Angels), 7-4. Mitch Boggs gave up 3 runs on 7 hits and had 5 Ks in 7 IP. Jason Motte got the win and was charged with a blown save. In the eighth he allowed 1 run on 2 hits. Chris Perez collected save number 19 with another exciting ninth. He allowed a hit and a walk and struckout 2. Bryan Anderson had a solo HR. Casey Rowlett had 3 hits on the night. Colby Rasmus was 0-4. Mark Hamilton was 1-4 with an RBI double. Juan Richardson had 2 hits and an RBI. Jarrett Hoffpauir continues his hot hitting, going 1-3 with 3 RBIs.

Memphis fell to Round Rock (Astros), 5-4, in 10 innings. Toma Ohka wasn’t very good in his Memphis debut, allowing 4 runs on 8 hits in 5 IP. Troy Percival pitched 2 shutout innings while giving up only a walk and striking out 2. Joe Mather was 1-4 with 2 Ks in his Triple A debut. Tagg Bozied had 2 hits including a 2-run bomb. Rick Ankiel was 0-5 with a K.
Ryan Ludwick hit a walkoff HR in the 14th for the win and the Series win against KC. The Cardinals made 4 errors on the night. Pujols was on base 5 times with 2 hits and 3 BBs. Chris Duncan and Scott Rolen each had 2 hits.
Both Chris Carpenter and Mark Mulder threw off the mound before the Cards’ game on Wednesday night.
