and sometimes it rains

The Cardinals and Mets were rained out.  The Cards now travel to Cincinnati for a 3 game series.

Looks like Reyes is on his way back down to Memphis.  Too bad, the guy really pitched well is last time out.  I wonder if it would be a bad idea to put him in the bullpen for the rest of the year with the big club just to get more major league experience.

Rick Ankiel was 0-3 but walked twice for Memphis.  Tagg Bozied hit HR number 11.  Brian Falkenborg blew his third save of the season, giving up 4 runs in the ninth for the losing Redbirds.

Mark Worrell is the only Memphis Redbird named to the PCL All-Star as he replaces Rick Ankiel who declined the invitation.  And here is another article about him deciding not to go to the All-Star game.

Check out Jolbert Cabrera’s thoughts on being on the DL after having an appy.

Memphis’ Rico Washington is probably done for the year after having ankle surgery.

Springfield thumped Midland (A’s), 13-2.  I would say Colby is back as he 2 hits and including his 15th HR, a 2-run bomb.  As Colby heats up, Bryan Anderson cools down.  The 20-year old catcher was 0-6 with 4 Ks.  Jarrett Hoffpauir had 2 more hits and 3 more RBIs including a 2-run HR.  Mark Shorey also homered.   Eric Haberer was stellar, giving up 1 run on 5 hits in 7 IP.

Check out the prospect profile of Hoffpauir over at Future Redbirds.  The guy is very deserving of a promotion to Memphis.

Brandon Buckman had 3 hits including his first HR for Palm Beach, a solo shot.  Jon Jay had 2 hits and should rejoin Springfield this weekend

The Swing fell to Clinton tonight.  Blake King had a great outing, pitching 3 scoreless innings and striking out 5.

Steven Hill is still raking for Batavia.  Another 2 hits and 3 RBIs.  He might be ready to go on to the Quad Cities.  Jess Todd was roughed up for 6 runs on 7 hits in 3.1 IP.  He did strikeout 5.

Johnson City and the Gulf Coast Cardinals were both rained out.

Blake Dewitt was 2-5 with 2 RBIs and 2 runs scored.

2 milestones in the majors.  Craig Biggio collect hit number 3000 and Frank Thomas hit HR number 500.  Funny thing about Thomas is that he got ejected in the ninth.
