Ludwick has a big day

The Cards’ bats exploded on Sunday afternoon, topping the Reds 11-7.  Maybe we should wait to make Maroth the mayor of St. Louis.  He was roughed up for 5 runs on 6 hits in only 3 IP.  Ryan Ludwick had a big day with 2 HRs and 4 RBIs.  Dunc hit his 15th of the year.

Derrick Gould has an update on the Cardinals first round pick, Pete Kozma.  Jocketty says that he hasn’t spoken to his agents, the Hendricks brothers,  in a couple of weeks.  Also, he states that the Cards’ initial offer is not what “they expected it would be.”  So you haven’t spoken to your top choices agents in a couple weeks?  What sense does that make.  Not only do the Hendricks represent Kozma, but they represent fourth round pick, Kyle Russell.  Seems to me Walt needs to put a higher priority on this as they Cards only have until 8/15 to get a deal done.

Seems Bernie is unsure if LaRussa/Jocketty should return.

The defending World Champions will only be sending Albert Pujols to the All-Star Game.  You know you are having a bad year when your manager only picks one player off his team.

Need a reason to make fun of the Cubs?  Probably not, but here is one just in case.

Memphis 5 New Orleans (Mets) 1

For Memphis, Joe Mather hit his second HR in 3 games but he is still only hitting .205.  Ricky went 1-5 with a K.  Randy Keisler got the win, pitching 6 scoreless innings.

Sprinfield 2 Frisco (Rangers) 8

Colby doubled and struckout twice for Springfield.  DH Juan Richardson had the only other extra basehit, also a double.  Jaime Garcia got roughed up for 6 runs on 7 hits and 4 BBs in only 4.2 innings.  He did strikeout 7.  Nick Webber gave up a run in 1.1 innings to raise his ERA to an anemic 1.55.

Here is a great article about Springfield catcher, Bryan Anderson.

Palm Beach 3 Brevard County (Brewers ) 6

Luke Gregerson got the loss, giving up 3 in the top of the ninth.  Allen Craig got 2 hits to rais his average to .327.  Brandon Buckman had a hit and 3 Ks in 4 ABs.  Jon Jay went hitless.  Eddie Degerman had a nice debut for Palm Beach.  He did give up 2 runs in 4 IP and still was able to strikeout 6.

Quad Cities 2 Wisconsin (Mariners) 5 in 11

Brad Furnish gave up 1 run on 2 hits in 6 IP. Kyle Mura pitched 2 more scoreless innings and now his ERA stands at 1.75.  Armando Carrasco struckout 5 of the 6 batters he faced to lower his ERA to 1.59.  Mike Schellinger got the loss, giving up 4 runs in the top of the 11th.  Steve Hill was behind the plate and went 3-5 with his first HR for the Swing.  Tim Dorn had his best game since being signed from the SI Miners, going 2-5.

23rd round pick Joey Hage was promoted to Johnson City.  For the GCL Cardinals, Hage hit .393/.452/.714 with 2 HRs and 6 RBIs in only 7 games.  In his Appy League debut he went 0-4.

Blake Dewitt had quite a June.  For the month DeWitt hit .390/.435/.650 with four home runs and 25 RBIs.  Here is more about his big night from the San Bernardino Sun.  On Sunday night he was 1-5.

2 Managers are now unemployed.  The Mariners Mike Hargrove resigned and the Reds Jerry Narron was fired.
