2 Swing players have big debuts

Please tell me we have seen the last of Kip Wells.  6 runs in 1 inning.  Give me a break. Surely Wells doesn’t start again.  That is unless he has pictures of Walt or Tony in compromising positions.   Pujols breaks his homerless streak but the Cards still fall 13-3.  What a great way to start the second half.

Memphis 10 Nashiville (Brewers) 5

Rick Ankiel went 3-4 with 3 RBIs.  Jarret Hoffpauir adds 2 more hits and is hitting .417.  Nick Stavinoha and Matt Pagnozzi had 2 hits each and one of Pagnozzi’s was a HR.  The bullpen combined for 4 scoreless innings.

Springfield 13 Wichita (Royals) 2

Juan Lucena has a huge night with 3 hits and 5 RBIs.  Colby wakes up with 3 hits, 2 BBs, and 2 runs scored.  Mark Hamilton adds 3 hits and 2 RBIs to get his average up to .272.  Springfield hitters combined for 20 hits.  Jaime Garcia allowed one run on 6 hits and 5 BBs with 5 Ks in 7 IP.

Palm Beach 3 Clearwater (Phillies) 1

P.J. Walters had a good outing after getting roughed up his last time out.  Walters gave up 1 run on 4 hits with 6 Ks in 6 innings.  Luke Gregerson picked up his 19th save.  Luke Gorsett was 2-2 in his Palm Beach debut.  Isa Garcia adds 2 hits.  7 of the 9 Palm Beach starters began the year at the Quad Cities.

Quad Cities 8 Peoria (Cubs) 3

Antonio Cruz and Nick Derba each homered in his Swing debut.  Cruz’ was a 3-run shot while Derba’s was a 2-run bomb.  Cruz ended with 3 hits on the night.  Steven Hill had 2 hits including his 3rd Swing HR.  Jared Schweitzer and Daryl Jones each added 2 hits.  Brad Furnish allowed 1 run on 2 hits in 6 innings of work.

Batavia 3 Lowell (Red Sox) 5

Clayton Mortenson allowed a run on 3 hits and struckout 3 in 3.2 innings.  Mateo Marquez had 2 RBIs.

Johnson City will be off on Friday and Saturday.

GCL Cardinals 1 GCL Dodgers 2

Ivan Castro had 2 hits.  Deryk Hooker allowed a run in 4 innings.

Blake Dewitt was 0-3 with 2 Ks.  Jacksonville as a team struckout 17 times.

A story about Mark Cuban buying the Cubs.  I really do not like the thought of Cuban buying the Cubs.  He is an owner that is going to spend whatever it takes to win and I really question the Cardinals’ ownership doing the same.
