Cardinals win big

The Cardinals won big behind a Grand Slam from Chris Duncan. Couldn’t do it against a more deserving guy than Jason Marquis.   Bring on the Brewers.

Springfield’s Jarrett Hoffpauir was rated the ninth best second base prospect by Baseball Prospectus.  It is a pay site, so here is just a bit:  This is the biggest breakout of the bunch…His numbers this year are nothing short of fantastic, and all of the peripherals indicate that it just might be for real, including more walks (35) than strikeouts (25) in 263 at-bats. Scouts are impressed with Hoffpauir’s feel for contact, but he’s not just a slap hitter, as he can punish mistakes by driving them into the gaps… If the Cardinals go into a rebuilding mode, Hoffpauir could find his way to St. Louis sometime during the year.

If you are keeping score, the Cardinals have the number 2 rated catching prospect, Bryan Anderson, the number 9 first base prospect, Mark Hamilton, one to watch, Brandon Buckman, and now Hoffpauir.  Not bad for a minor league organization that has been one of the worse over the last few years.

3 Memphis pitchers combined on a 1 hitter as the Redbirds topped Sacremento 1-0.

For Springfield, Colby was 1-5.  Juan Lucena had another nice night with 3 hits.  Mark Shorey hit his tenth HR.

Johnson City exploded for 18 runs.

Blake Dewitt was 3-4 with a solo shot, 3 RBIs, and 2 runs scored.  It was Blake’s second HR in his last 3 days.  Dewitt’s average is up to .400.

That’s it for now.  I hope you like the prospect pics I put up.  We have 3 more ballparks to visit before the end of the season so I will post more.  Also, I have more pics that I have not posted yet.
