Totally Pathetic

Totally pathetic…  A team that claims they are still competing for the division goes out and gets blown out in the first game of the series against the division leading Brewers.  Disgusting…  That is all I can say about it.

According to Bernie, Bill Dewitt announced at a banquet to honor Hall of Fame inductee, Rick Hummel, that the Busch Stadium pressbox will now be named the Bob Broeg/Rick Hummel Pressbox.

Derrick Gould has a nice feature on Springfield’s P.J. Walters.

Jaime Garcia will be shutdown for a minimum of 3 weeks.  A MRI shows no rupture of the ulnar collateral ligament.

Chuckie Fick was promoted to the Swing of the Quad Cities.  Fick was the Cardinals 15th round pick out of Cal State Northridge.

Memphis 3 Sacremento (A’s) 4

Blake Hawksworth gave up 3 runs on 5 innnings.  Ricky was 0-4.  Jarrett Hoffpauir had a hit.  Tagg Bozied had 2 hits including a HR.  Mark Worrell pitched 2 scoreless innings.

Springfield 9 Wichita (Royals) 8

Colby Rasmus tripled and later scored on a throwing error in the ninth to tie the game.  In the top of the eleventh, Colby hit a ground rule double to drive in Casey Rowlett for the win.  Chris Perez pitched a perfect bottom of the eleventh for his 27th save.  Future Cardinal LOOGY, Zachary Zuercher, got the win with 3 shutout innings.  Adam Daniels was lit up for 6 runs in only 2 innings.  Nick Webber was stellar, pitching 4 shutout innings, while allowing only 1 hit and striking out 3.  His ERA is now 2.39 Webber is a very good relief prospect who gets overlooked because he is on the same team as Chris Perez and Jason Motte.  Rasmus finished a homer short of the cycle.  Jose Martinez had a solo shot.  Casey Rowlett had 2 hits and 3 RBIs.

Palm Beach 3 St. Lucie (Mets) 7

Chris Grossman had 2 hits and an RBI.  Isa Garcia had the only other Cardinal hit.  Eddie Degerman and the Florida State League due not seem to be a very good fit.  Tonight, Degerman gave up 4 runs in 5 innings and now is 1-3 with a 5.09 ERA since his promotion.

Quad Cities 6 Burlington (Royals) 5

Steven Hill had a huge night!! Hill had a pair of HRs and 5 RBIs.  Chuckie Fick made this Swing debut with 2 scoreless innings.  Kenny Maiques got his 23rd save.

Batavia 12 Jamestown (Marlins) 5

Charlie Pelt had 3 hits including a 2 run HR.  Tommy Pham had a single, a double, and a walk and scored 3 runs.  Justin Roberson, Will Groff, and Dan Descalso each had 2 hits.  Pete Praise pitched 5 shutout innings for the win.

Johnson City 2 Burlington (White Sox) 4 GAME 1

Beau Riportella had a hit and 2 runs scored.  Joey Hage had 2 RBIs.

Johnson City 0 Burlington (White Sox) 7 Game 2

Nick Vera was 3-3 with 2 doubles.

GCL Cardinals 0 GCL Mets 5 suspended in the second.

Blake Dewitt was 1-5.  He is now hitting .380.

Former Cardinal Hector Luna was DFA’d.

The Padres traded for a guy that I have been high on, Scott Hairston of the Diamondbacks. Later in the day, the Padres signed Shea Hillenbrand.

The Phillies acquired Tadahito Iguchi from the White Sox.

Kenny Lofton is returning to Cleveland.

Barry Zito might be as bad as Mike Maroth but Maroth costs a whole lot less money.

Saved by the rain.
