Cards are six out

The Cardinals are now 6 games behind the Brewers.  Who would have thought the Cardinals would take 3 of 4?  Eck and Albert were big for the Cardinals.  Ludwick had a hit and 3 RBIs.

If I am Walt, i don’t change my gameplan (if he had one) just because we are 6 out.  This team does not have the horses for the long haul.  I am on the phone with the Angels trying to pawn Juan off on them.  Let Ludwick play everyday and see if he flourishes.  At least you would know what you have for next year.  I think the guy would produce if he got to play everyday.  Just look at his minor league numbers.  The guy can hit.  See if any GM has recently hit his head and might be interested in Looper or Wells.  You have to do whatever it takes to get some cash off the books and get ready for next year.

After Reyes’ nice start on Saturday he will get another start in the coming week.

The Brewers are now are now only one half game ahead of the Cubs for first place in the Central.

It’s rumor time and the most interesting one involving the Cardinals is Anthony Reyes going to the Phillies for outfielder Mike Bourn.  Bourn is a center fielder who projects as a top of the order hitter.  Baseball America calls Bourn, a version of Juan Pierre with better discipline and a stronger arm.  I would perfer Adrian Cardenas, but if the Cards could get Bourn and a mid level pitching prospect such as Drew Carpenter, I would do it.

It seems that Amauri Marti, the Cuban mystery man, will be assigned to Memphis soon.

 Memphis 6 Fresno (Giants) 3

Slicky Ricky hit number 30, a 2 run blast.  Ankiel also collected 2 doubles.  Joe Mather was 3-3 including his seventh HR.  Mike Parisi had a nice outing, giving up 2 runs in 7 innings.  Mark Worrell collected his fourth save.

Springfield 0 Wichita (Royals) 1

Game only went 6 innings due to rain.  Sean Danielson, Juan Lucena, and Mark Shorey each singled.  P.J. Walters had given up a run on a solo shot when the rains came and the game was finally called.

It looks like Jaime Garcia is out for the year with elbow discomfort

Palm Beach had the night off.

Quad Cities 3 Burlington (Royals) 0

Tyler Herron pitched six shutout innings, scattering 6 hits and striking out 4.  Kyle Sadlowski allowed only a walk in 2 innings.  Kenny Maiques struckout 2 in a perfect ninth to collect his 24th save.  Promote Maiques already.  Antone DeJesus gets 2 more hits to raise his average to .340.  Daryl Jones and Jose Garcia added 2 hits each.

Batavia 4 Jamestown (Marlins) 2

Jess Todd was outstanding, giving up 1 run on 3 hits and striking out 8 in 5 innings.  Stop the presses, Blake “I walk a lot of guys” King, struck out 6 and walked NONE in 3 innings.  Great job Blake.  Josh Dew struckout 2 in a perfect ninth to collect his seventh save.

Johnson City 4 Bluefield (Orioles) 0

Nick Vera was 3-4 with 2 runs scored.  Jon Edwards doubled and walked and ended up scoring each time he reached.  Adron Chambers collected 2 hits.  Tyler Leach pitched 5 innings, allowing only 3 hits.

Blake Dewitt had 2 doubles on Saturday night but left the game due to th effects of a foul ball he hit off his right leg.  Let’s hope Blake is okay.  Blake sat out Sunday’s game and has a hit in his last eleven games.
