Cards win fourth in a row and Springfield bats erupt

So the only move the Cardinals made was picking up Joel Pineiro off the scrap heap.  His numbers for his career outside of Safeco Park are very unimpressive.  But, I guess we will see.  I was quite disappointed that the Cardinals could not deal Juan to a team in desperate need of a bat.  I just think if Ludwick were allowed to play everyday, he could be a pretty solid player.  Not an All-Star, but not a guy that would embarrass himself either.

Former Cardinal Matt Morris was dealt to Pittsburgh.  Sorry Matt.

You have to be totally impressed with what the Braves went out and did.  To add Tex, Dotel, Royce Ring, and Ron Mahay.  The Braves gave up a lot in terms of prospects, but as I heard say the other day, those pennants fly forever.

Boston acquiring Gagne makes that team really scary.

There are a lot of Cardinal fans out there that felt the Cardinals went cheap in the draft.  Something from BP that I found to be very interesting: “draft picks matter. The Rangers made one good pick and got four years of production out of Teixeira, and flipped that into five and half years of Saltalamacchia, plus whatever they get from the other guys. All that out of one pick and the smarts not to be cheap in the draft.”  So you might pay more upfront, but you really do save in the long run.

Over at VEB, Larry has a great Q and A with Jeff Lunhow.  If you have no read it yet, you better get on it.

Chris Perez was promoted to Memphis and made his debut.  Tyler Johnson is now rehabbing at Springfield. The Springfield club also announced the additions of Mike Sillman, Cody Haerther, and Chris Russ.

Tyler Henley made his debut for Batavia.  Now let’s get Russell, Stutes, and Zawacki signed.

Wainwright gave up 2 runs in 6 innings.  Izzy picked up save number 21.  Ludwick had a hit and an RBI to go along with a fantastic catch.  Rolen needs to have a cortisone shot more often as he collected 2 hits.  The Cards have won 4 in a row.

Memphis 1 Fresno (Giants) 5

Brendan Ryan collected 2 hits.  Nick Stavinoha hit his eleventh HR of the year.  Randy Keisler gave up 4 on 11 hits in 7 innings.  Chris Perez made his Triple A debut, striking out 2 in a perfect inning.

Springfield 4 Arkansas (Angels) 14

Eric Haberer gave up 4 runs in 6.1 innings.  Colby Rasmus had a hit, a walk, and scored 3 times.  Cody Haerther had 2 hits including a 2 run HR in his return to Springfield.  Mark Shorey had 2 hits and 4 RBIs including his eleventh HR, a 2 run shot.  Mark Hamilton also hit a 2 run shot.  Bryan Anderson and Juan Lucena each had a hit and 2 RBIs.  Jose Martinez had a hit and 2 runs scored.  Martinez has been really hot since being promoted.

Palm Beach  and Daytona (Cubs) were rained out.

Quad Cities 6 South Bend (Diamondbacks) 11

Shaun Garceau was roughed up for 5 runs in 2.1 innings.  Steve Hill had 2 more hits including a 3 run HR.  Tony Cruz had 2 more hits to raise his average to .338.
