Colby Rasmus honored

The Cardinals’ dropped the first game in Washington.  So manys’ hearts were excited this time Sunday night, boy what can happen in 5 days.

Tony said tonight that Rick Ankiel will be called up in September if not sooner.  Great, I have Memphis tickets for September 1.

Springfield’s Colby Rasmus has been named the Texas League’s most exciting player and manager Pop Warner its best managerial prospect in Baseball America’s annual Double-A Best Tools awards. Also, former outfielder Joe Mather was named the Texas League’s best power hitter and closer Chris Perez its best reliever. Mather hit 18 homers before receiving a promotion to Triple-A Memphis, and Perez recorded 27 consecutive saves before being promoted to Memphis.  Rasmus was also named the best defensive outfielder and its best outfield arm.

Sixth round pick Oliver Marmol was promoted to the Quad Cities on Friday.

 Memphis 3 Tacoma (Mariners) 4

Mike Parisi gave up 3 runs in 6.1 innings.  Joe Mather was 2-3 with 2 runs scored.  Jarrett Hoffpauir hit his third Triple A HR, a 2 run shot.  Rick was 1-4.

Springfield 10 Tulsa (Rockies) 11

Nick Webber gave a leadoff HR in the ninth for the loss.  Jose Martinez was 2-5 with his fifth HR.  Martinez now has 5 HRs in 135 ABs while he had 2 in almost twice as many ABs in Palm Beach.  Bryan Anderson was 3-5 with 2 doubles and 2 RBIs.  Juan Lucena was 3-5 with 4 RBIs and his first HR of the season.  Mark Hamilton contributed 3 singles.  Colby Rasmus had 2 hits including a double.  New additions Cody Haerther and Amaury Cazana Marti each had 2 hits.  Tyler Johnson pitched a perfect inning with a K.  Mitch Boggs was torched for 7 runs in 5 innings.

Palm Beach 2 St. Lucie (Mets) 4

Adam Ottavino was pretty good through 6 innings, allowing only 1 run, but he gave up 3 more in the seventh before being pulled.  He ended with a line of 4 runs on 6 hits in 6.1 innings.  Brandon Yarbrough had 2 hits and an RBI.  Yarbrough was the only Cardinal with more than one hit.

Quad Cities 11 West Michigan (Tigers) 5

A huge night for Christian Reyes as he went 4-5 with 5 RBIs including a 3-run jack.  Steve Hill and Nick Derba each collected 3 hits.  Antone DeJesus and Tony Cruz added 2 hits of their own.  Oliver Marmol got a hit in his Swing debut.  Tyler Herron was shaky, giving up 4 runs in 4.2 innings.

Batavia 3 Jamestown (Marlins) 10

David Carpenter had 3 hits and 3 RBIs.  Newly signed Tyler Henley was 2-2 and is hitting .500.  Not a bad first week.

Johnson City 3 Burlington (Royals) 12

Jose Mateo had his worst outing at JC, giving up 7 runs in 1.2 innings. Mike Folli had a triple and a homer.  Jon Edwards was 3-4, 2 of which were doubles.  Pete Kozma doubled for his only hit.

Former Cardinal Hector Luna was claimed off waivers by the Blue Jays.

Is Milton Bradley hurt as much as J.D. Drew or is J.D. Drew hurt as much as Milton Bradley?

No update on Saturday as I am heading to Chattanooga to see the Lookouts play the Jacksonville Suns.
