Nothing really impressive to talk about today.  The big club losses as does all but one of the minor league affiliates.  To be fair, Johnson City split a double header, so it won a game also.

The Cards fall in 11 innings to the lowly Pirates.  At least the Pirates know they are lowly.  Only 4 Cardinals got hits.  Reyes gave up 3 runs in 5.

Pujols has been working with Maroth as Albert believes he has been tipping his pitches. I hope Maroth gets it worked out, he seems like a really good guy.  Check out his latest blog entry to read his feelings on his struggles.

Watching the Braves tonight, they are going to be really tough down the stretch.  If they get any starting pitching at all, forget about it.  Their lineup is redhot, with 4 players hitting over .350 since the All-Star break.  Now with Teixeira they are going to be tough to beat.  By the way, Tex homered in his Atlanta debut.

Memphis 0 Tacoma (Mariners) 7

Chris Lambert got the start and was surpisingly effective, one run in 4 innings.  Hugo Castellanos gave up 5 runs in 2 innings to allow the game to get out of reach.  Brendan Ryan, Nick Stavinoha, Joe Mather, and Jarrett Hoffpauir each had 2 singles each.  The Redbirds had no extra base hits on the night.

Springfield 1 Arkansas (Angels) 4

Adam Daniels gave up 3 in 5.2 innings. He didn’t have his best stuff so it is good to see he still competed and kept his team in the game.  Mark Shorey was 2-4 and was the only Cardinal with multiple hits.

Palm Beach 3 St. Lucie (Mets) 10

Isa Garcia had 2 doubles and 2 runs scored.  Jon Jay had 2 hits and an RBI.  Eddie Degerman’s promotion to Palm Beach has been not good.  He gave up 7 runs while lasting only 3.1 innings.

Quad Cities 6 South Bend (Diamondbacks) 7 in 14 innings

Elvis Hernandez continues to struggle, allowing 4 runs on 2 hits and 5 BBs in 4 innings.  His ERA is now almost 6 after a sensational start.  After seeing him at the end of May, no way I thought he would be doing so poorly.  Kenny Maiques gave up 2 in the bottom of the ninth for the blown save. Jaime Landin drew 3 walks.  Christian Lopez had the only extra base hit.

Batavia 4 Jamestown (Marlins) 3

Ross Oeder was the only Muckdog with multiple hits.  Andrew Brown homered.  Blake King pitched 5 shutout innings, giving up 4 hits and NO BBs.  Jess Todd was roughed up for 3 runs in 3 innings.

Johnson City 0 Burlington (Royals) 5 Game 1

Roberto Espinoza and Adron Chambers had a hit each to account for the Cardinals only 2 hits.

Johnson City 5 Burlington (Royals) 4 Game 2

Pete Kozma drew 2 walks, stole a base and scored the winning run.  Travis Mitchell went 2-3 with a HR.  Matt Arburr also homered.

Super prospect, Justin Upton, was promoted and made his Diamondback debut as a defensive replacement.  In his only at bat he fouled out.

Maybe the Brewers are beginning to feel the stress of a playoff chase.  Word is that manager Ned Yost and catcher Johnny Estrada got into an altercation dugout tunnel.

  1. Hey, nice site. I really don’t know if there’s a cure for Maroth; he’s a fantastic guy and a great competitor, but he really can’t catch a break right now. It appears that Kip Wells passed on his bad luck to Maroth. I guess we’ll see tonight.
